  • 1896 - The Sunshine of Paradise Alley recorded by George J. Gaskin begins a run of 6 weeks at #1 on the US charts.

  • 1936 - Billboard magazine publishes its first music hit parade.

  • 1963 - At Cortina d'Empezzo in Italy, Dalida receives a Juke Box Global Oscar for the year's most-played artist on juke boxes.

  • 1965 - Fender Guitars is sold to CBS for $13 million.

  • 1969 - Guitarist Jimi Hendrix causes complaints of arrogance from television producers after playing an impromptu version of "Sunshine of your Love" past his allotted timeslot on the BBC1 show Happening for Lulu.

  • 1979 - The Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany, best known for its connections to the early days of the Beatles, reopens.
