1791 - Premiere of Mozart's opera, "La Clemenza di Tito," in Prague at the National Theater. Written for and performed on the eve of the coronation of Leopold II of Prague.
1910 - Premiere of Vaughan William's "Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis," at the Glouchester Festival, with the composer conducting
1940 - Clarinetist Sidney Bechet records Blues In Thirds with pianist Earl Hines and drummer Baby Dodds
1961 - Premiere of Elliott Carter's Double Concerto for Harpsichord and Piano with Two Chamber Orchestras, in New York during the Eight Congress of the International Musicological Society, with Gustav Meier conducting and harpsichordist Ralph Kirkpatrick and pianist Charles Rosen as the soloists.
1970 - During his final European tour, guitarist Jimi Hendrix is greeted by booing and jeering by German fans at his late appearance on stage and incoherent stage performance. Bassist Billy Cox quits the tour and returns to the United States.
1977 - Premiere of Thea Musgrave's opera "Mary, Queen of Scots" at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, conducted by the composer.
1979 - Premiere of Knussen:'s Symphony No. 3, by the BBC Symphony in London.
1995 - Premiere of Lou Harrison's "A Parade for M.T.T.," by the San Francisco Symphony, Michael Tilson Thomas conducting.
1997 - Elton John performs "Candle In The Wind" at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales; John Tavener's Song for Athene is performed at the same ceremony.
